Settling in here in Wuhan

Sunday, July 18, 2010

I apologize for the delay in posting. We had uneventful flight from LA to Guangzhou. Caleb did very well on the long flight. He slept for eight hours of the 15 hour flight. So did mommy and daddy. We arrived in Guangzhou at 6:30am and had to work quickly to make our connecting flight to Wuhan. It seemed our luggage was the last to make it off the plane. When we went to recheck our bags, the worker yelled, "Quickly quickly!". So we kicked it up a notch and made it just in time to catch our flight. None our seats were together. So that took a little bit of work to get at least two seats together.

Once we arrived in Wuhan, Shirley met us at the airport, along with one other family with our agency, the Drewes, who had just arrived from Beijing. We had a one hour car ride to the hotel. It was nice to chat with Lori and Mike and get to know them a little bit. We found out that we will be receiving our daughters at 3:00pm tomorrow afternoon, which is about what I expected.

Our hotel is quite nice. We checked in around noon and decided shortly after to get some lunch. We opted to eat at the hotel because we could tell that Caleb was tired. That was an understatement. He fell asleep on Patrick's lap while waiting for our food. We had one server who spoke reasonable English. So we were able to have our food delivered to the room. Patrick and Caleb took a nap while I chowed down on some yummy food. We had Lotus pancakes which were delicious. Thanks for the suggestion, Heather. We also had some fried rice and an interesting and quite delicious fried noodle.

After reading a little bit, I decided to nap with the boys, all three of us in the bed, as the rollaway bed we requested for Caleb had not been delivered. The crib for Madeline, however, was delivered, as was a baby bath tub. Seeing those two items in the room seemed so surreal. We are so close to meeting our daughter, after waiting so long. As I type, Patrick is trying to get one of our computers connected to the Internet, so I can add some travel photos to this post. But that may have to wait until next time. Thanks again for all your prayers and support. Stay tuned!

***Photos added***
I have managed to add just two photos at this point. We have been juggling computers, internet connections, etc. The connection is very slow and fickle. It has taken forever just to get these photos to load, and I had to do it in a roundabout way. So thanks for your patience. As soon as we work out the kinks, we'll post more photos. I know that's what you're all looking for, so I'll do my best. Thanks for your patience.

Leaving Orlando, thanks for driving us to the airport sis

I will try to add a few more photos from our travels tomorrow. I'm letting the internet win this fight tonight.

It's 1:30 AM in China right now--I hope you all are sound asleep and can sleep for a while longer (those first few days, you wake up pretty early as I'm sure you remember!). Looking forward to seeing those first few pictures as a family of 4!

Dear Patrick and Eva, Caleb and Madaline--I just got onto your blog page after Patrick was so sweet to send it to me and all Avi and I can say is the blessings that you are getting and the ones your new daughter and beloved son are receiving in turn are too numerous to count. For each day of frustration and anticipation you endured, so a million fold will be your happiness as a complete family. It is written, "And the child grew and the Lord blessed him" So it will be with your children..blessed to have you two wonderful parents. Can't wait to meet the new addition to the family,,,,Carol and Avi

About This Blog

This blog is the place where shared our lives while waiting to bring our daughters Madeline and Havi home from China. (Our son Caleb was already home before this blog began.) It is now the place where we continue to share our life experiences, both big and little, as we try to glorify God and raise our 3 dumplings from China.

Feel free to join us as we journey through life, while I try to capture our days...
